Scientific Council

Each year, the Scientific Council volunteers their time to review more than 1,200 grant applications, recommends the best ideas from scientists around the world, and mentors NARSAD Young Investigator Grantees.

Led by founding and current President Dr. Herbert Pardes, the Scientific Council reviews and selects the most promising research ideas with the greatest potential to lead to breakthroughs. The Council is composed of 179 active world-renowned scientists and 12 Emeritus members including one Nobel Prizewinner; three former directors and the current director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH); four recipients of the National Medal of Science; 11 members of the National Academy of Sciences; 41 chairs of psychiatry and neuroscience departments at leading medical institutions, and 54 members of the National Academy of Medicine.

In 30 years, the Scientific Council has reviewed more than 25,000 grant applications. This represents more than $19 million estimated in volunteer contribution of service.
